Lexia Reading Levels

Lexia Reading is a technology based system to help students improve their reading and comprehension skills. Lexia offers two reading program levels:

  1. Core5 is targeted at students at grade 5 and below;
  2. Strategies for Older Students is a comprehensive program that diagnoses any deficiencies a student has and provides a personalized program of content in order to improve that student’s reading skills.

Lexia Reading Core5 1 Lexia Reading LevelsCore5 is a customizable program based on national and state standards for each grade level. Core 5 focuses on phonics and phonological awareness up to the second grade and begins to teach structural analysis from the second grade on. Vocabulary, fluency and comprehension skills are built upon at each level. As the system provides instruction (through an iPad, browser or desktop app) it continually monitors and records the students progress and proficiency. Not only does this allow the program to provide a personalized learning environment, moving forward at the exact pace at which the student learns, this provides constant feedback that can be given to teachers and parents in the form of data-driven action plans that identify the student’s progress through the program. These action plans suggest resources and avenues of instruction for any areas that the student might have trouble with. This kind of personalized reporting can prove invaluable for yearly testing or to simply inform the course of a student’s education.

Lexia Strategies older students 1 300x255 Lexia Reading LevelsThe Strategies for Older Students builds upon the core ideas of the Core5 program. Designed for students grade 6 and above that are struggling with reading and comprehension, the Strategies for Older Students program provides a personalized series of activities and assessments for students. Strategies for Older Students continually analyzes the student’s performance, first by determining the appropriate level of instruction for a student and then by continually monitoring the results of activities and assessments. When a student begins struggling with an activity, the program lowers the difficulty and provides assistance in order to allow the student to learn and catch up. Once the student has completed the assisted version, the program repeats the activity at the standard instruction level to re-assess the student’s progress and continue the lesson.

Strategies for Older Students also provides progress reports on students’ activity. If a student continually struggles with a particular type of activity or test, the program automatically notifies teachers via e-mail in real time to provide further personal instruction in that area. These notices include the same kind of data-driven action plan that Core5 features but also suggest and provide step-by-step instructions for lessons based on the specific skills the student is struggling with that explain exactly how to help the student improve in the problem area.

In addition to both real time and on demand reporting, Strategies for Older Students will suggest a set of activities to complete with pen and paper outside of the program. These activities can be done by students on their own, with a teacher or tutor, or with a group of their peers in order to further reinforce the lessons learned within the program. They are formulated to help build upon lessons that are taught within the program by practice, reflection and expression in a different environment to help ensure students can perform when the time comes, no matter what.

Strategies for Older Students has been proven in peer reviewed, scientific studies to significantly enhance the rate at which struggling students learn. It is automatically available to students with Core5 who are at grade 6 or above.

Lexia’s programs incredible tools for helping students all through elementary school and beyond at all reading levels. Core5 helps address classroom standards in elementary school with personalized, standards based education, while Strategies for Older Students provides a platform to get a student up to grade level fast at grade 6 and beyond. Whichever one you choose, the improvement in your children’s reading levels will be remarkable.
